Annnnddd, have you entered our cool members-only Hotel for Dogs and Woof Patch Woof comps in the #95 May/June issue of Dogs Life yet? Who’s an old girl then?Meet Chanel. She’s one special pooch and do you know why? Because she’s recently become the Guinness Book of World Records’ oldest dog in the world! Born on May 6, 1988, Chanel is now a whopping 147 years old in dogs years, which makes her about 21 years old in human years. But although her hair is completely white, and she needs winter woolies to keep her warm and special doggy glasses for her cataracts, Chanel’s vet says that she’s happy, healthy and bound to have many more years ahead of her! For her birthday bash, the elderly pooch lived up to her uber-chic designer name by spending the day being pampered at the luxurious New York Dog Hotel & Spa — all thanks to US pet food company Dogswell — where she enjoyed an oversized birthday cake and the company of her fellow doggy party-goers.

| Blown away!

All you Chihuahua owners out there hold on tight, because a big gust of wind might just blow your pint-sized pooch away! A couple from Michigan, US, recently got a fright of their life when their Chihuahua Tinker Bell was blown off the top of their platform trailer and carried away in a violent storm. Lavern and Dorothy Utley, Tinker Bell’s owners, had just set up shop at their local flea market when the incident occured. "They tried to catch her too but nobody could,” Dorothy said. “The wind had her and she was just going on and her collar was found across the street. She flew and she went over three lanes into the woods." The manager of the flea market added: "It was just like the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy and Toto." And how did Dorothy and Lavern Utley find their pooch? By using a pet psychic of course, who said that Tinker Bell was in a wooded area not too far from where she was blown away. And that’s exactly where the Utley’s found her — a little dirty and very hungry, but otherwise well! | |

Taking care of your pooch
Is your pooch old, an arthritis sufferer, prone to tight muscles or a little bit anxious? According to Dogs NSW, there’s one thing that will surely do your pooch the world of good and help ease those aches, pains and worries – a doggy massage! To pamper your pooch with a relaxing rub-down and have a little doggy bonding time, gently massage the painful area or spot where they most like to be rubbed with your three middle fingers – this will relieve some of the pain and surely have your pooch wagging their tail in delight! But, before you sit your pooch down for a rub-down, don’t forget to check with your vet that a massage is the most suitable remedy for your pet.
